Sharon was born in Washington D.C. and has lived in Maryland since age six. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Special Education and has a Masters Degree from Johns Hopkins University in Communicative Disorders. Sharon taught in Prince Georges County for ten years. She worked as a Home and Hospital teacher in Howard County while her two sons were growing up. Sharon spent the last sixteen years of her teaching career at Atholton High School as a special education teacher, working with students with developmental and intellectual disabilities as well as co-teaching English. Sharon sponsored the Best Buddies Club at AHS. She supported the student executive committee to organize school events and participate in state events such as the annual Best Buddies Friendship Walk.
Sharon values involvement in activities that support the community. She was a member and chairperson of the Social Action community at her synagogue, and she organized their participation in Christmas/Sukkot in April. Since retiring Sharon has volunteered as a CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocate, for children in the foster care system. She is presently supporting her third CASA youth. Sharon is drawn to the mission of Ohana HC. She enjoys being a mentor and working with other mentors in her role of Village Coordinator.
