When Transportation Stands Between Young People and Opportunity
A young person can find the right job, training program, class, internship, appointment, or community event and still face one very practical question: How am I going to get there?
StoryMentoring

Strong mentoring takes more than good intentions. It takes listening, learning, and a willingness to grow alongside young people.
During a recent training with Frank Kros of Kros Learning Group, OhanaHC mentors explored what today’s youth are navigating and how to shift from trying to “fix” problems to helping young people build confidence and find their own way forward.
Mentors also walked away with practical tools they can use in their everyday relationships with students.
Continuous learning is one of OhanaHC’s core values because mentoring goes both ways. Mentors and students learn from one another through curiosity, reflection, and shared experiences.

When Lisa Terry became an OhanaHC mentor, she signed up to be there for a young person. Six years later, she says the experience has given just as much back to her.
What does a youth mentor actually do? Learn how mentors listen, open doors, help young people define success for themselves, and build relationships that grow over time.
