Guilford Park Village

Guilford Park High School brought together students from communities across eastern Howard County to form a new school with its own identity, traditions, and sense of belonging.

Our Story

A community built by the students

The Class of 2026 was the first to walk its stage. They came from several area high schools, then moved as sophomores into a brand-new building with a new mascot and classmates they had never met.

Students established the playbook for what being a Panther should mean.

The Guilford Park village meets after school every Thursday, a steady, reliable space to gather, talk through real things, and build trust. Conversations move through goal setting, preparing for exams, healthy social media habits, financial literacy, and whatever students need to bring to the table.

Mentors connect every month and lean on one another, and a weekly Wednesday check-in keeps everyone close. The point is a foundation students can build on, the same way they built their school.

Who We Are

Both coordinators just wrapped their first year leading the Guilford Park village, drawn in by Susan Porter, whose passion, they will tell you, is impossible to say no to.

Their wish for every student at Guilford Park is simple: to feel truly seen, and to be shown possibilities they never knew were within reach.

In Our Words

See OhanaHC Through Their Eyes

Every village has its own story. Hear from youth, mentors, families, and community members who bring OhanaHC to life.

The most rewarding aspect of this role is building personal connections with our exceptional students. Each student brings something special to our community, and watching them begin to unite as a supportive cohort has been immensely gratifying. Coupled with the dedication of our mentors, who show up consistently and give their all to support these young people, it makes serving as a Village Coordinator meaningful.

Impact

Moments that made a lasting impact

Every relationship is different, but the impact often begins with small, meaningful moments like these from Guilford Park Village:

  • A first made possible

Two students experienced the excitement of a live sporting event for the first time, with their mentors beside them for every moment.

  • Stability during a hard season of life

During some personal challenges, one student found consistency, encouragement, and people they could lean on.

  • Guidance through major transitions

One student graduated, worked through a challenging job situation, and began preparing for college with steady guidance from their mentors.

  • A powerful academic comeback

While navigating serious academic and personal challenges, one student stayed connected to OhanaHC, kept showing up, and earned a 3.0 GPA in a single quarter.

Different students. Different challenges. The same powerful difference: each student had someone who stayed in their corner as they self-defined success.
