A letter
A community built on connection
Dear Friends, Partners, and Members of the OhanaHC Community,
At OhanaHC, we believe something simple and powerful: young people thrive when they know they are seen, supported, and connected to people who will keep showing up. Relationships are not an extra part of our work. They are the work.
Across Howard County, there is a quiet need that can be easy to miss. It does not always show up in a headline or a report. It can look like a young person carrying uncertainty alone, a family unsure where to turn, or a student surrounded by people but still feeling disconnected. Beneath the strength and opportunity in our community, too many young people are still searching for belonging, trusted adults, and a wider network of people who believe in what is possible for them.
That is where community matters. This year, mentors, families, schools, volunteers, funders, employers, and community partners chose to lean in together. They created introductions, opened doors, shared meals, listened without judgment, offered guidance, and built the kind of consistent connections that can change a young person’s direction. No one organization can meet every need, but a connected community can do far more than any of us can do alone.
We will continue strengthening the pathways from high school and beyond, investing in mentors, deepening our school and community partnerships, and expanding opportunities for young people to discover their strengths, build confidence, and imagine a future they can step into with support.
The future of OhanaHC will be built the same way our impact has always been built: one relationship, one connection, and one act of showing up at a time. Thank you for being part of that community, and for believing that when we choose to truly know our young people, brighter futures become possible.
With gratitude,
Quinton Askew
