Mentoring Gives Back, Too

Nicole Batts Brown, an OhanaHC mentor

The story

After 34 years in education, Nicole Batts Brown already knew the difference a caring adult can make in a young person’s life. She joined OhanaHC after hearing about the experiences of friends who were mentors.

What surprised her was how much the relationship would mean to her, too.

I’m getting more out of this than my student. She and her family are amazing. Watching her growth has been a privilege. I’m fortunate to have found this organization.

That’s part of what makes mentoring so powerful. Just 4 to 6 hours a month can create a meaningful relationship for a young person and become an important part of a mentor’s life, too.

Last year, 95% of OhanaHC students reported feeling respected and supported.

Sometimes showing up for someone else changes you, too.
