Mentors Keep Growing, Too
Strong mentoring takes more than good intentions. It takes listening, learning, and a willingness to grow alongside young people.
StoryMentoring

Howard County has been home to Thomas King for more than 20 years, and community service has been part of his life for even longer.
Originally from Midland, Michigan, Thomas graduated from Michigan State University and went on to build a successful career in IT sales. Along the way, he continued making time to give back and stay involved in the community around him.
That commitment to service is what brought him to OhanaHC.
As a mentor, Thomas is giving a young person something that can make a lasting difference: a trusted adult who shows up, listens, shares perspective, and stays in their corner.
OhanaHC represents the necessary foundational pieces of what makes a good community and provides the opportunity to build strong-lasting families. I am honored for the opportunity OhanaHC provides to serve our community, share light wherever there is a need, and invest in our youth, sharing its unified vision.
We’re grateful to have Thomas as part of the OhanaHC village and for the time, experience, and encouragement he is investing in the next generation.

Strong mentoring takes more than good intentions. It takes listening, learning, and a willingness to grow alongside young people.
A young person can find the right job, training program, class, internship, appointment, or community event and still face one very practical question: How am I going to get there?
When Lisa Terry became an OhanaHC mentor, she signed up to be there for a young person. Six years later, she says the experience has given just as much back to her.
