Finding Her Voice

Aradia with two women from her Ohana on a backyard deck, celebrating her graduation

The story

Aradia joined OhanaHC as a quiet freshman at Hammond High School, still figuring out where she belonged. Like many young people, she was looking for connection, encouragement, and people she could trust.

Over the next four years, her mentors kept showing up. They listened, encouraged her, and were there through the everyday ups and downs of high school. Little by little, Aradia opened up, grew more confident, and built a circle of people she knew she could count on.

Having people who kept showing up for me helped me believe in myself.

Aradia R., Hammond High School, Class of 2026

This spring, she graduated from Hammond High School and is preparing to attend Howard Community College. Her mentors were there to celebrate with her family, too.

She heads into this next chapter with more confidence, a stronger support system, and the reassurance that she does not have to figure everything out on her own.
